Inspirations for Practice and Leading
In spring 2021, the Edmonton Council for Early Learning and (ECELC) and MacEwan University conducted case studies with Indigenous families, childcare educators, directors, and senior staff to learn how support for newcomer and Indigenous families can be realized in the Edmonton region ( Leading from the Field: Practices to Support Indigenous and Newcomer Families — ECELC). The case studies were part of the research titled Quality Indicators and Dispositions in the Early Learning and Child Care Sector: Learning from Indigenous and Newcomer Families: Final Report — ECELC conducted by Chelsea Freeborn, MEd., Alvina Mardhani-Bayne, PhD., and Cheyanne Soetaert.
Many themes were derived from the case study conversations which resulted in the development of documents on various topics to support child care educators and directors in their work in meeting the needs of newcomer and Indigenous families.
